Happy Thanksgiving!

Its not something we do in India. I never knew such an holiday existed till a few years back. But then my brother migrated to America and everything changed.
Now I know there is a specific day alloted to be thankful for everything we take for granted. No I am not being sarcastic. I love that idea. There should be this one specific day when you pause and look back and thank the Lord for all the things you have been taking for granted the whole year.

I am thankful for my family, for our health, for a roof on my head , for a steady flow income into to the house and the food that is on our plate everyday.

'Thank you' to my parents who continue to take care of me after all these years.

'Thank you' to  my husband who continues to tolerate my idiosyncrasies even after 7 years of 'us'.

'Thank you' to my daughter who lets me make mistakes as a new mother and still looks up to me.

'Thank you' to my brother who introduced me to new cultures and still is very grounded and 'Desi'.

'Thank you' to my sister-in-law who gave me a sister I never had.

'Thank you' to my nephew who was the first one to stir the maternal instincts in me. I love your dinosaurs and flights!

'Thank you' to my niece with whom I am yet to form a verbal relationship but I still love the way your eyes lit up and you give that baby smile.

'Thank you' to my mother-in-law and father-in-law firstly for the cliche i.e. giving birth to my husband and secondly, for being understanding.

'Thank you' to my sister-in-law( Husband's sister) for showing me how energy and enthusiasm should actually be.

'Thank you' to each and everyone who make a difference to my life directly or indirectly , knowingly or unknowingly.

I dont do Turkey as I am a vegetarian but I am thinking of creating my own Thanksgiving tradition with a vegetarian twist :)

"No longer forward nor behind
I look in hope or fear;
But, grateful, take the good I find,
The best of now and here. "
-John Greenleaf Whittier
