12.12.12 I just wanted to write it once. :)
What's in a name? A lot I tell you . It may not be so for a rose but us humans it matters. I was named
Sirisha and given a middle name Satya after my grandma. I love it so far. But in South India, the name format is <Last Name><Middle Name><First Name> the initials of which turn out to be ASS for me :| Imagine going through High School with that!
So the only major thought process that I had with my daughter was that her initials shouldn't mean anything. According to Hindu Traditions and Dates, it was suggested that she be named with the letter 'V'. It would be auspicious for her. I dont mostly believe but I didn't really object to it as her initials would turn out to be VAD and atleast in English it didn't mean anything.
First I thought of Vanya. Now this wasn't inspired from Vanya Mishra ,the Miss India,2012. The name had an universal appeal. It had meanings in Sanskrit,Greek and Russian.
But it wasn't very popular amongst my in-laws for reasons I don't want to get into. Sigh!
So then came a lot of names like Vanhi,Varnika Vipra and Viti. Somehow I looked at my baby and she didnt look like a Vanhi,Varnika Vipra or a Viti.
So I skipped the Indian baby names and went to a global site. I came up with Vera (meaning Truth) and Vevina ( sweet little lady). I looked at the litte girl and called out both names and she responded to Vevina :)
So there we have it. My girls name is Vevina. Vevina means a sweet lady in Latin,Irish and Hebrew. It is of gaelic origin.
